This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage Car Checkout uses, what each one does and how you can control them.
It follows the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR. Read it alongside our Privacy Policy.
The short version
- We only use essential cookies and storage right now: to keep you signed in and remember your cookie choices.
- We don't use analytics or advertising cookies today. If we add them, they stay off unless you turn them on.
- You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
This summary is for convenience. The full text below is what applies.

1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage and session storage, let a site save information on your device in the same way. In this policy we call them all “cookies”.
Some are essential for a site to work. Others are optional, for example to measure visits or show adverts, and need your permission first.
2. Essential cookies we use
These are needed to provide the service you ask for, so they don't need your consent. They are set by Car Checkout only and are not used to track you across other sites.
| Name | Type | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| cc_consent | Cookie | Remembers your cookie choices so we don't ask on every page. | 6 months |
| cc_token | Local storage | Keeps you signed in to your account. | 7 days, renewed automatically while you stay signed in |
| cc_refresh | Local storage | Renews your sign-in when it runs out, so you don't have to sign in again. | Until you sign out, or 30 days after signing in |
| cc_refresh_exp | Local storage | Records when your sign-in ends, so the site knows when to sign you out. | Until you sign out, or 30 days after signing in |
| cc_user | Local storage | Holds your name and email so the site can show who is signed in. | Until you sign out |
| cc_human_pass | Session storage | Remembers that you passed our Cloudflare Turnstile security check, so you aren't asked again on every page. | 15 minutes, or until you close the tab |
| Cloudflare Turnstile | Third-party (Cloudflare) | Cloudflare's security check, shown on forms and lookups when you aren't signed in, to stop bots and abuse. Cloudflare processes your IP address and browser details for this purpose only. | Set and cleared by Cloudflare |
| cc_dev_otp | Session storage | Holds a one-time code during sign-up in test environments only. | Until you close the tab |
3. Optional cookies
We group optional cookies into two types. We don't use either type today.
- Analytics: would help us understand which pages are used and where people get stuck, so we can improve the site.
- Marketing: would help us measure our adverts and show relevant offers on other websites.
If we start using optional cookies, we will list them here, ask for your consent first and never set them before you agree.
4. Third-party services
Our fonts are served from our own site, so loading a page does not set third-party cookies.
When you pay for a report, our payment provider may set its own cookies to process the payment securely and prevent fraud. These are covered by the provider's own cookie and privacy notices.
5. Managing your choices
Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page, or the button at the top of this page, to accept or reject optional cookies at any time. We ask again every 6 months.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies or storage, signing in and saving checks will stop working.
Rejecting optional cookies never stops you from running a vehicle check or buying a report.
6. Changes to this policy
We will update this page whenever we add, remove or change a cookie. The date at the top shows the current version.
