Terms and Conditions

The agreement between you and Car Checkout when you use or buy a vehicle history report.

  • Effective 27 October 2026
  • EPOCHS IT LIMITED trading as Car Checkout
  • ICO 00016081831

These Terms and Conditions (the Terms) apply when you access or purchase a vehicle history report through Car Checkout.

Please read these Terms carefully before placing an order. They explain who we are, how our vehicle reports are supplied, the limitations of vehicle-history data, your cancellation and refund rights, and the terms applying to the Experian AutoCheck Data Guarantee.

The short version

  • Reports are a dated snapshot of third-party records, not a mechanical inspection or a guarantee about the vehicle.
  • Check the registration and VIN you enter. Always compare the report with the vehicle and its V5C.
  • Supply starts straight after payment, so the 14-day cancellation right ends once your report is generated. Your statutory rights for faulty reports still apply.
  • Only reports sold with the Experian AutoCheck Data Guarantee are covered by it. Free checks are not covered.
  • Reports are for your own use. Don't resell, publish or scrape them.

This summary is for convenience. The full text below is what applies.

1. Who we are

Car Checkout is a trading name of EPOCHS IT LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales.

In these Terms, Car Checkout, we, us and our mean EPOCHS IT LIMITED. You and your mean the person purchasing or using a report.

2. About our service

Car Checkout supplies electronic vehicle history reports for vehicles identified by a registration number and, where requested, other vehicle identifiers such as a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

The checks included in each report are shown on our website before you order. Different report levels may contain different checks, data sources and guarantees. You should review the description of your selected report carefully before paying.

Unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing, our reports:

  • are intended for individual consumer use in connection with assessing a vehicle;
  • relate primarily to vehicles registered in the United Kingdom;
  • provide a snapshot of the information available from our data providers at the time the check is performed;
  • are not a mechanical inspection, roadworthiness assessment, valuation guarantee or substitute for professional advice; and
  • do not guarantee that a vehicle is safe, mechanically sound, accurately described by its seller or suitable for your requirements.

3. Eligibility and permitted use

You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into a contract to purchase a report.

You may use a report only for your personal, non-commercial assessment of the relevant vehicle. You must not, without our prior written permission:

  • resell, redistribute, publish or commercially exploit a report or its data;
  • systematically extract, scrape, reproduce or create a database from our reports;
  • use the service unlawfully, fraudulently or to infringe another person's rights;
  • interfere with the website, its security or its operation; or
  • misrepresent the source, date, scope or meaning of report information.

You may download or print one copy of your report for your own records and may show it to professional advisers assisting you with the proposed vehicle purchase.

4. Information you provide

You are responsible for entering the correct vehicle registration number and any other requested information. Please check these details before paying.

We are not responsible for an incorrect or irrelevant report where it was generated using incorrect information supplied by you. If you believe you made a genuine input error, contact us promptly and we will consider whether we can assist, but we are not required to provide a replacement report or refund unless required by law.

You must compare the registration number, VIN, make, model and other identifying information in the report against the physical vehicle and its V5C registration certificate. You should not rely on a report that appears to relate to a different vehicle.

5. Ordering and formation of the contract

The report description and total price, including applicable taxes, will be displayed before you place your order.

By submitting an order, you confirm that:

  • the information you supplied is accurate;
  • you have reviewed the selected report and its included checks;
  • you agree to these Terms;
  • where the selected report includes the Experian AutoCheck Data Guarantee, you agree to the Experian terms linked in section 11; and
  • you request immediate electronic supply of the report and acknowledge the cancellation consequences described in section 8.

Your order is an offer to purchase the selected report. A contract is formed when we accept payment and confirm the order. We may reject or cancel an order before delivery if payment is not authorised, the requested service is unavailable, the vehicle cannot be identified, we suspect fraud or misuse, or the price or service description contains an obvious error. If we cancel after taking payment and do not supply the report, we will refund the amount paid.

6. Prices and payment

Current prices are displayed on our website before checkout. Prices may change, but a change will not affect an order we have already accepted.

Payment is processed securely by the payment-service provider identified at checkout. We do not receive or store your complete payment-card details. The payment provider may apply its own terms and privacy notice.

You must use a payment method you are authorised to use. Reports must not be obtained using a fraudulent payment method or through an unauthorised chargeback.

7. Delivery and access

We aim to generate reports immediately after successful payment. Delivery may occasionally be delayed by maintenance, unusually high demand, incorrect vehicle details, payment-provider issues or the temporary unavailability of third-party data services.

Your report will be displayed online and/or delivered to the email address you provide. It will remain available through your Car Checkout account or report link for the period stated at purchase. You should download and retain your own copy after delivery.

You are responsible for providing a valid email address, maintaining access to it and keeping report links or account credentials secure. If a report does not arrive, check your spam folder and contact us at info@carcheckout.co.uk.

8. Cancellation and refunds

Vehicle reports are personalised electronic reports that we normally begin generating immediately after payment. By placing your order and giving the express consent requested at checkout, you ask us to begin supplying the report immediately and acknowledge that you lose your statutory 14-day right to cancel once supply of the digital report begins.

This does not affect your statutory rights where a report is faulty, not as described or not supplied with reasonable care and skill.

Please contact us if:

  • payment was taken but no report was generated or made available;
  • you were charged more than once for the same order;
  • a report cannot be accessed because of a fault in our service; or
  • you believe the report does not match the service you purchased.

Where appropriate, we may regenerate the report, correct the problem, provide a replacement or issue a full or partial refund. Refunds will normally be made to the original payment method. We do not normally provide a refund merely because a report contains no adverse history, because you decide not to purchase the vehicle, or because you entered the wrong registration number.

Nothing in these Terms limits any refund, repeat-performance, price-reduction or other remedy to which you are entitled under applicable consumer law.

9. Vehicle data and its limitations

Our reports combine information obtained from third-party sources. Depending on the selected report, these may include Experian, Vehicle Data Global, DVSA, DVLA-derived sources, insurers, finance providers, police records, salvage sources, vehicle manufacturers and other commercial data providers.

Sections containing Experian information will be identified with “Data provided by Experian”. We will not attribute information from other sources to Experian.

Although we and our suppliers take reasonable care, vehicle-history data can be incomplete, inaccurate or delayed. In particular:

  • an incident, finance agreement, theft, write-off, salvage event, mileage record, plate change or other event may not yet have been reported or added to the relevant database;
  • organisations contributing data may make mistakes, amend records or report information late;
  • different suppliers may process registration-plate changes at different times or in different ways, which can temporarily produce inconsistent identity or technical information;
  • a vehicle may have relevant history outside the United Kingdom that is not available to us;
  • mileage information consists of recorded mileages and does not prove that the current odometer reading is genuine;
  • a “clear” result means no relevant record was found in the sources checked at that time; it does not prove that no relevant event or interest exists; and
  • vehicle specifications, fuel consumption, emissions, running-cost estimates and valuations may be approximate and may differ from the actual vehicle.

A report is therefore a dated snapshot, not a continuing monitoring service. Events occurring or records added after the report time will not appear unless you purchase a new report.

Where identity or model information returned by different suppliers conflicts, we may omit the affected technical fields, display a warning or ask you to verify the vehicle's registration and VIN. You must not rely on technical information that appears inconsistent with the physical vehicle or its documents.

10. Your vehicle-buying responsibilities

You should not rely solely on a Car Checkout report when deciding whether to buy a vehicle. Before purchase, we strongly recommend that you:

  • inspect the vehicle and arrange an independent mechanical inspection;
  • confirm that the VIN displayed on the vehicle matches the VIN and registration documents;
  • examine the original V5C and check its issue date and identifying details;
  • verify the seller's identity, address and authority to sell the vehicle;
  • contact any finance provider shown in the report and obtain confirmation that the finance will be settled;
  • investigate any warning, discrepancy, missing information or adverse marker;
  • check service, repair and MOT documentation; and
  • obtain appropriate legal, technical or financial advice where necessary.

Do not purchase a vehicle if its identity cannot be verified or if material concerns remain unresolved.

11. Experian AutoCheck Data Guarantee

Only a report expressly advertised at the time of purchase as including an Experian AutoCheck Data Guarantee benefits from that guarantee. Free checks, basic reports and reports that do not expressly display the guarantee are not covered.

For a covered report, the applicable Experian guarantee limit will be displayed before purchase and on the report. The standard guarantee currently has a financial limit of £10,000. A higher limit applies only where that higher level was specifically purchased and confirmed.

The guarantee is provided by Experian and is subject entirely to the Experian AutoCheck Data Guarantee Terms and Conditions (opens in a new tab). Those Experian terms form part of the contract for a guaranteed report and should be read before you purchase both the report and the vehicle.

The guarantee is not a mechanical warranty or insurance against every problem with a vehicle. Broadly, it concerns qualifying financial losses caused by specified inaccuracies or omissions in Experian provenance data. It does not generally cover a vehicle's physical condition, safety, value, valuation, specification, fuel consumption or dimensions. All coverage, eligibility requirements, exclusions, evidence requirements, time limits and claim limits are governed by Experian's terms.

To preserve potential eligibility, you must purchase the covered report before purchasing the vehicle and comply with all requirements in Experian's terms. Claims under the Experian guarantee must be made to Experian using the process specified in those terms. We will provide reasonable assistance in identifying your report and purchase record.

We do not promise that Experian will accept or pay a claim. Eligibility and claims are determined under Experian's guarantee terms.

12. Intellectual property

The Car Checkout website, branding, report presentation, software and original content belong to us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws.

Vehicle information and other third-party content remain subject to the rights of the relevant data providers. Purchasing a report gives you a limited, personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use it as permitted by these Terms. It does not transfer ownership of our or our suppliers' intellectual property.

13. Availability and changes

We do not guarantee that the website or every data source will always be available without interruption. We may suspend or change the website or a report where reasonably necessary for maintenance, security, legal compliance, supplier changes or service improvements.

If a material supplier outage prevents us from delivering a paid report, we will use reasonable efforts to complete it when service resumes. If we cannot supply it within a reasonable time, you may contact us for an appropriate replacement or refund.

We may update these Terms. The version applying to your purchase is the version presented when you placed the order, except where a change is required by law or benefits you without reducing your rights.

14. Our responsibility to you

We will provide our service with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or your statutory consumer rights.

Subject to the preceding paragraph, we are not responsible for:

  • losses caused by inaccurate, incomplete or delayed third-party records where we have exercised reasonable care and skill;
  • losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was formed;
  • losses caused by incorrect information supplied by you;
  • losses caused by your failure to investigate a report warning or follow the reasonable checks in section 10;
  • business losses, including loss of profit, revenue, opportunity or goodwill, where you purchased the report as a consumer; or
  • events outside our reasonable control.

Nothing in these Terms makes us responsible for deciding a claim under the separate Experian guarantee or increases the protection provided by that guarantee.

15. Privacy

We process personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. This explains what information we collect, why we use it, the organisations with which it may be shared, how long it is retained and your data-protection rights.

Our ICO registration number is 00016081831.

16. Complaints and support

If you have a question or complaint, contact us at:

  • Email: info@carcheckout.co.uk
  • Post: Car Checkout, EPOCHS IT LIMITED, 2 Fleetwood Road, Slough, England, SL2 5ET

Please include your order number, vehicle registration number and a clear description of the issue. Do not send complete payment-card details by email.

We will acknowledge and investigate complaints within a reasonable time. This section does not prevent you from using any statutory dispute-resolution or court rights available to you.

17. Other important terms

If any provision of these Terms is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

If we delay enforcing these Terms, that does not waive our right to enforce them later.

You may not transfer your rights under these Terms to another person without our agreement. We may transfer our rights and obligations to another organisation, but only where this does not reduce your consumer rights. We will notify you if such a transfer materially affects you.

No person other than you, us and, where applicable, Experian in relation to its guarantee terms has any right to enforce these Terms.

18. Governing law and courts

These Terms and your contract with us are governed by the law of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you retain the benefit of any mandatory protections of the law where you live and may generally bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom where you live. Otherwise, the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction.
